An company in China has set a new Guinness record by creating the largest umbrella in the world. The giant brolly is 23 metres around and 14.4 metres tall and weighs 5.7 tonnes - large enough to cover an entire plaza.

The umbrella, which consists of red, green, yellow and blue panels, was made in Jiangxi province, and opened over a large crowd of people in a ceremony where it was certified as a world record-holder on Monday.Umbrellas, and parasols in particular, remain a popular accessory in China, where exposure to the sun is considered unhealthy.
