Ireland is to hold a referendum on legalising gay marriage. The vote will take place in May 2015. A recent survey suggests 71% of the electorate would vote in favour of the change, although the Catholic church has announced it would oppose gay marriage. Voters will be also be asked to decide whether to lower the minimum age of the Irish presidency – currently set at 35, it could be lowered to 21. Read more: theguardian.com
