Police discover hoard of stolen treasures near Rome, lawyer charged

A huge hoard of valuable historic artefacts including crucifixes, murals, bibles, statues and paintings, has been found by police at a lawyer’s house in Grossarotta near Rome. The collection, which dates from ancient Etruscan times to the baroque period, represents the spoils of at least 24 separate thefts from archaeological and burial sites in central Italy that took place over several years. Police, who also found newspaper clippings about the thefts in the lawyer’s home, have charged him with the possession of stolen goods. Read more: thelocal.it
