World's tiniest ‘jumping mouse’ discovered in western China

The world’s smallest dwarf three-toed jerboa, also known as the ‘jumping mouse’, has been discovered in Xinjiang province in far northwestern China.

The rodent was discovered by a local driver, who saw a small mouse in front of his car that had a ‘pig-like face’. The man described the mouse as being no larger than a water bottle cap. A researcher from the local centre for disease control identified the rodent as the dwarf three-toed jerboa, and confirmed the species is native to the deserts of northern and western China.
