Castillo Roquero

Now that’s what you call a castle! Looking like a natural extension of the crag upon which it stands, Atienza’s romantically dishevelled castillo has Roman, Visigothic and Moorish antecedents. It was finally wrested from the Moors by Christian King Alfonso VI in 1085 and is now a windswept ruin overlooking the surrounding meseta (plains).
