Horse breeding, carriages, the colourful racing industry and the horse’s role in Irish history are covered at Dartfield, which is set in extensive parkland 47km east of Galway city. Pony rides thrill the kids; it also offers cross-country jumping (€35) and half- and full-day treks (€65/130).
