Captain Cook climbed this 162m-high hill looking for a passage through the reefs. The 360-degree views of the town, river and ocean are wonderful, especially at sunset. Easy vehicle access is up a steep sealed road (Hope St) from town. Walkers can ascend via a bush trail from Cherry Tree Bay.
There's a small working lighthouse at the summit, along with interpretive boards.
